We experimentally investigate the effect of vertical vibrations on brittle behavior fine cohesive powders consisting glass beads 5 μm in diameter. This is an attempt to understand a sole role fluidizing Geldart’s group C powders, which known for posing difficulty while fluidization. find that powder column can be compacted, fractured, and effectively fluidized by increasing strengths external vibrations. process vibration-induced fracturing summarized full experimental phase diagram showing four distinct phases vibrated column: consolidation (CS), static fracture (SF), dynamic (DF), convective (CF). boundary separating consolidated regimes depends dimensionless shaking strength, S.
